Shala Gandhi

A communal studio

A cooperative yoga studio is the organizational expression that integrates both the elements of solidarity economy, and of yogic philosophy, specifically karma yoga. And Mahatma Gandhi, in addition to being a devout practitioner of yoga, is considered the best historical exponent of karma-yogi, dedicating his life to the liberation of India.

This type of yoga is defined in the classic Indian poem Bhagavad Gita, which is a fragment of the epic text Mahabharatta, whose authorship is attributed to Vyasa (the compiler). This poem has become one of the main sources of yoga philosophy. There we can find described the ways to achieve the full realization of the human being and enlightenment, which highlights karma yoga, the yoga of action, which establishes as its maximum purpose to «work as a mode of devotional service.»

So, to do our job as a promoter or practitioner of yoga we are doing a devotional service. By doing so cooperatively, we are honoring a fair and equitable way of organizing with ourselves and the world that surrounds us. The project of a cooperative study or shala is to unite our activities, skills, talents and interests to exercise both our profession and our internal work of personal and collective growth. A place, a house, where to form together and in an affordable way. We are not interested in competing with other spaces but in cooperating, also inviting other studies to unite and better face economic issues such as scale purchases, and less expensive trainings where we invite international teachers, or training abroad, to give social security to our workers, establish economic intercooperation mechanisms such as emergency funds, insurance, to better overcome crises, etc.

A space for workshops of yogic philosophy, to meet and intertwine. A house for self-realisation in communion.
